Alex and I were scheduled to see a play tonight as part of the Manhattan Theatre Club, and it wasn’t half bad, but the important part is that, before the show, after I met her at work, we went strolling to find some place to eat dinner, and settled on Chanpen, and it wasn’t half bad, but the important part is that, while we were waiting for our food, a couple of people came in to meet a group for dinner, and Alex noticed one of them was Jessica Lappin!
I restrained myself from going up to fawn over her for her for her autograph, and Alex held me back from taking a surreptitious picture with my phone camera… OK, no I didn’t, and no she didn’t, because I wasn’t going to anyway. But it was weird to randomly see a public figure — and one I’ve “met” — in a random midtown Thai restaurant.
She looked healthy.

Jessica is Famous For Upper East Side (FFUES), but I doubt I would recognize any other city council person. I once stood in line for wine just behind Gifford Miller after he finished poorly in the Mayoral race, but decided not to say anything…poor guy.
Next time you randomly see Lappin, tell her you can’t wait to see more bike lanes installed…

Yeah – I was trying to figure out through furtive glances whether any of the people she was dining with were other council members, but I quickly realized that even if I could stare at them for a long time, I still wouldn’t recognize anyone else. Except maybe Dan Garodnick.
I thought about trying to say hi to her and include something neighborhoodish and green-positive, but it just didn’t seem appropriate. I wouldn’t want to interrupt what, for all I knew, might have even been a private, family meal. I only posted about it because, hey, it’s not very often I get to play Page Six!
… it’s “OMG!!! Ponies!!!” excitement …
