Friday silliness:
At the site it says “Adam” is statistically the 143rd most popular first name. Steve is the 153rd. Take that, Steve!
Frank is the 47th most popular first name. Frank? Where are all the Franks? I can barely think of ever meeting one…
Michael is 4th. I keep trying to guess the big Number One most popular first name, but I can’t think of it.
IMPORTANT UPDATE!: OK, I got ‘em, but I had to cheat: The number 1, 2, and 3 names: James, John and Robert. DUH! I should have guessed at least John. Mary is #5. Hooray!
The weird thing is how those things change. James, John & Robert were once popular names, so they are the most numerous in current census data, but those people were all named decades ago. They just mean the names are common, not popular. At least not in terms of naming new babies. Apparently the new hotness is Jacob and Emily. Why Jacob? What’s the deal? I understand Ethan and Olivia, but Jacob?
BTW, there are 5 people in the U.S. named Felix Unger. 12 named Edgar Poe.
