Three For Today

After sharing two random songs last Tuesday, I got the idea that I might start doing that every Tuesday. Of course, predictably, I miss the first repeat and am doing it Wednesday. I guess that’s a good excuse to share three songs instead of two. (Also, a note, you can click the little arrow-circles next to each track to open up more info about the release or artist ;) )

It’s springtime, so let’s have some upbeat, springy music! Luckily the shuffle doesn’t disappoint.

We’ll start with Saint Etienne’s “Been So Long” just a nice song of new beginnings with a kick in its step. Ah, I love Saint Etienne, almost always that happy, nostalgic tone…

I knew when you / Came around here to see me / You’d stay here till the morning / Can’t stop myself from falling / In love with you / You know we’ll never be the same

Been so long / It’s been so long / I’m tired of being alone / There’s a way to go / Honey I know now I’m calling you on the phone

Then let’s continue with a track from an old “world” album I picked up randomly back in my early teenage years – maybe from a mall visit to The Nature Company or something. I’ve liked Outback ever since, though they only did two albums, and “Sunday Morning” is a great example. I always want to open my windows and do spring cleaning when I hear this song. And learn to play digeridoo! Fresh air! Sun!

Finally we’ll shift gears a little to one of my favorite Autechre tracks, the speedy, positive “Flutter.” An added note, and I’ll just quote from Wikipedia:

[Anti EP] was a protest against the [UK] Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, which would prohibit raves, described as gatherings where music is played, music being defined as a “succession of repetitive beats.” So, the third track, “Flutter”, has been advertised as having non-repetitive beats [specifically the liner notes say "Flutter has been programmed in such a way that no bars contain identical beats"] … But following their disclaimer, it was advised to DJs to “have a lawyer and a musicologist present at all times to confirm the non repetitive nature of the music in the event of police harassment.”

OK, Spring on! I doubt I’ll keep this weekly thing up, but we’ll see…
