About

Damek is a dubious nickname I adopted years ago. No one calls me Damek, but it became my website. I live in New York City, and this is my personal blog. I work in technology (assistance and training). I’m interested in anthropology (culture, human possibilities), technology, sustainability, and other things. I believe life should mean endless possibilities, connoisseurship of life’s subtle variations, and some appreciation of alterity.

These days I mostly try to write and share things of use to others and myself, such as recipes. Some recipes may relate to food, some may relate to technology, some may relate to tools for thinking. I have one other blog, Among Others, where I write more heavily about social theory and anthropology, particularly relating to human relationships of various kinds.

I’ve had this website a long time, and it contains a lot of old content from earlier days of my life, some which I find embarrassing, and I don’t. I leave them up for posterity, chiefly because there is even older material from previous incarnations of this website which has been variously discarded or lost, which I regret. These days I think it’s better to remember.
